What if a place could be experienced beyond what is immediately visible?
Interactive Places grew out of years of observing Hong Kong and Macao - their streets, people, objects, routines and the small details through which a place reveals itself.
Developed through photography, moving image and augmented reality, the project explores the relationships between people, places and objects, moving from individual observation towards the wider cultural and social dynamics that shape everyday life.
Photography captures a moment. Moving image brings back time, movement and sound. Augmented reality allows another layer to appear, extending the photograph into a parallel narrative that can be explored rather than simply viewed. The process moves deliberately from photographic capture to video and then to an augmented experience.
Technology, however, is not the subject. It becomes another material for design - a way of bringing image, sound, memory and place together, and of exploring how a static image can become an experience.
Interactive Places asks what happens when we look again - at familiar spaces, overlooked details and the stories they hold.
The project was presented at Criatech 2022 in Aveiro, Portugal, where it was exhibited at the Museum of Santa Joana, in the Coro Alto room. It was later presented in Macao as part of ARTeFACTo, the Conference on Digital Creation in Arts, Media and Technology.
